San Fedelino Granite: complete guide

San Fedelino is a light granite from Lombardy, white-grey with dark speckling. It is a traditional Alpine stone, chosen for its strength and bright tone.

History and origin

It comes from the province of Sondrio, in the area between Valchiavenna and the upper part of Lake Como, a district with a long tradition of stoneworking. San Fedelino has been used for buildings, stairs, paving and street furniture, especially in Northern Italy. It is considered one of the most typical light Italian granites. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is white-grey, with quartz, light feldspar and dense, well-distributed black mica. The appearance is homogeneous, with slight variations in tone between blocks. Polished, it looks clean and brilliant; bush-hammered or flamed, it takes on a matt white-grey with a rustic character.
