Tennessee Dark Rose: complete guide
Tennessee Dark Rose is an American calcareous material in pinkish-brown tones, known commercially as Tennessee marble. It is chosen for its warm colour and traditional appearance.
History and origin
So-called Tennessee marble is in fact a compact, polishable limestone, often rich in fossil fragments, quarried in the eastern part of the state. It was widely used in the United States for floors, cladding and public buildings in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Dark Rose version is the variety with the most intense tones. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is pinkish brown with darker areas and fine veins, sometimes with small visible fossil fragments. Tone and pattern vary between blocks, from pinkish to reddish brown. Polishing intensifies the colour; honing makes it more uniform and warm.

Recommended uses
Suitable for interior floors, cladding, stairs, interior thresholds and window sills, and furnishings. It is not recommended for kitchen tops where citrus fruit and vinegar are often handled. For exteriors, non-polished finishes and an assessment of the climate are preferred.
Care and maintenance
Neutral detergents and water; no limescale removers or concentrated bleach. A water- and oil-repellent treatment limits staining. Damaged polished surfaces can be restored by honing and polishing.
