White Travertine: the complete guide
White Travertine is a travertine in light tones, from ivory white to cream. It is chosen for bright interiors, from classic to minimalist in style.
History and origin
This name refers to light travertines quarried in several countries, including Italy, Turkey and Iran; the origin depends on the batch. Like all travertines it forms through the deposition of calcium carbonate from spring water, which leaves the typical cavities. Marmi di Carrara has handled it in blocks and slabs and supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is ivory white, with beige veins and more or less visible cavities. The vein cut shows parallel lines, the cross cut a clouded appearance. Honed, it is soft and light; tumbled or brushed, more rustic.

FAQ
Is it suitable for a pool surround?
Yes, light travertines are widely used around swimming pools, with a tumbled or brushed finish; frost resistance should be checked in cold climates.
Does it stain easily?
Being light and porous, without protection it can absorb liquids: a good treatment solves most of the problem.
How does it differ from Roman Travertine?
Roman is a beige travertine from Lazio; White Travertine has lighter tones and may come from different origins.
