Travertino Rosso Soraya
Guide

Soraya Red Travertine: the complete guide

Soraya Red Travertine is a travertine in a warm red colour, rare compared with the more common beige travertines. It is chosen for floors and cladding with a strong character.

History and origin

Red travertine is typical of Iran, its main producer; it forms through deposits from springs rich in calcium and iron oxides, which are responsible for the colour. It is a material appreciated in contemporary interior architecture for its warm shade. Marmi di Carrara has handled it in blocks and slabs and supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is brick red with lighter or darker bands and shadings. The typical travertine cavities can be filled or left open. Cross cut and vein cut give very different patterns; honed, brushed or polished finishes greatly change how the colour comes across.

FAQ

Is the red colour natural?

Yes, it comes from the iron oxides present during the formation of the rock.

Should the cavities be filled?

For floors and worktops filling with colour-matched resin or cement is recommended; on walls they can be left open for a more textured effect.

Which finishes are recommended?

Honed for an elegant look, brushed or tumbled for a more rustic, less slippery effect.
