Arktinen Arkoosi: the complete guide
Arktinen Arkoosi is an arkose, that is a feldspar-rich sandstone, in beige and pinkish tones. The Finnish name literally means 'Arctic arkose' and recalls its Nordic origin.
History and origin
Arkoses are sedimentary rocks formed from feldspar-rich sands, generally derived from the erosion of granitic rocks. In Finland the ornamental stone tradition is linked above all to granites, and sandstones are rarer materials. Arktinen Arkoosi is a niche stone, to be assessed batch by batch. Look and veining
The background is beige with pinkish shadings, due to the presence of feldspars. The grain is visible but regular, sometimes with slight laminations. Matt finishes, such as honed or brushed, enhance its natural character.

It is suitable for indoor and outdoor cladding, floors and stairs with matt finishes. It lends itself to projects looking for a stone with a warm yet understated colour. For kitchen worktops porosity and treatment should be assessed first.

It should be treated with a water-repellent protector and cleaned with neutral detergents. In outdoor areas it is useful to renew the protection periodically. Avoid aggressive products that could alter the surface.
