Ebenheid Sandstone: complete guide
Ebenheid Sandstone is a German red sandstone with an intense colour and a fine grain. It is chosen when a warm, workable stone with a long tradition of architectural use is wanted.
History and origin
It is one of the red sandstones of the Main region, in Germany, quarried and worked for centuries for civic and religious buildings. It is a classic material for portals, plinths, cornices and exposed masonry. Today it is used in restoration and in modern projects that aim to evoke the identity of a place. Look and veining
The colour is a full red, sometimes tending towards purplish, with a fine, compact grain. Thin laminations and small lighter spots may be present, making each slab slightly different. With a honed finish the colour is more saturated; with chiselled finishes the surface becomes textured and lighter.

Recommended uses
It is suitable for façades, plinths, cornices, thresholds, boundary walls and outdoor stairs, as well as street furniture. It is not the right choice for kitchens or surfaces requiring maximum stain resistance.
Care and maintenance
Cleaning with water and a brush is sufficient in most cases. In damp areas a breathable water repellent reduces biological films; avoid acidic or highly alkaline products.
