History and origin

Rapakivi is a Finnish term for granites with ovoid feldspars often rimmed by a lighter border, typical of southern Finland. These granites are known on the market under trade names such as Baltic Brown and Baltic Red. They have long been used for floors, façades, kitchens and street furniture. Look and veining

The red-orange background is dominated by large ovoid feldspar crystals, sometimes with a light rim, interspersed with grey quartz and dark minerals. The distribution of the crystals makes each slab slightly different, although the overall pattern is repetitive. Polishing intensifies the red, while rough finishes lighten it.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, floors, stairs, exterior cladding and street furniture. Its coarse grain makes it very expressive on large surfaces. Outdoors, flamed finishes are recommended for floors and steps.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent and water. On worktops a stain-proofing protector, renewed periodically, is useful. Avoid overly alkaline or abrasive products on the polished finish.
