History and origin

The Barre area of Vermont is one of the best-known granite districts in North America and has developed a long tradition of stoneworking. Its grey granite is associated above all with memorial and commemorative work, thanks to its compact grain, which allows precise carved detail. Look and veining

The background is medium grey with fine, regular light and dark crystals, without marked patches or veining. Slabs from neighbouring batches are very similar, an asset for work requiring continuity. Polishing creates a sharp contrast with engraved or bush-hammered areas, which appear lighter.

Excellent for monuments, headstones, engraved plaques, bases and outdoor stairs. Indoors it lends itself to kitchen worktops, thresholds and floors, where it offers an understated, hard-wearing look. There are no particular drawbacks, other than choosing non-slip finishes for outdoor use.

Care and maintenance

Clean with lukewarm water and neutral soap, avoiding abrasive products that dull the polish over time. On outdoor monuments, periodic cleaning removes moss and deposits without damaging the stone.
