Bateig Blanca: complete guide

Bateig Blanca is the light variety of Alicante calcarenite, with a light beige background and a very fine grain. It is valued for its brightness and even appearance over large surfaces.

History and origin

Like the other varieties of Bateig, it is quarried in the province of Alicante, in Spain. It is a fine-grained sedimentary stone, traditionally used in architecture for façades, portals and decoration. Its workability also makes it suitable for turned elements and complex profiles. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request, as slabs or finished pieces.

Look and veining

The background is light beige, almost ivory, with a homogeneous grain and occasional darker specks or thin veins. Differences in tone between slabs are limited. Honed, it has a warm, soft look; bush-hammered or sandblasted, it is lighter and matt, suitable for outdoor use.

Recommended uses

It is used for façade cladding, interior walls, fireplaces, columns, cornices and carved furnishings. Indoors it can be laid as flooring in rooms with moderate traffic; it is not very suitable for worktops or areas with standing water.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and neutral soap, without anti-limescale products or bleach. A stain-proofing impregnator limits the absorption of oil and coloured liquids, to which the light tone is particularly sensitive.

FAQ

Does Bateig Blanca change colour over time?

Outdoors it may develop a slight natural patina; a water repellent and periodic cleaning help maintain its tone.

Is it suitable for a fireplace?

Yes, it is a frequent choice for fireplace surrounds and cladding, thanks to its ease of working and warm tone.

Can it replace a beige marble?

Aesthetically yes in many applications, with a more matt, textured look; technically it is more porous and must be carefully protected.
