History and origin

It comes from Brazil, one of the leading producers of commercial quartzites, and over recent decades it has spread on the international market as an alternative to light veined marbles. Quartzite results from the metamorphic transformation of quartz-rich sandstones, which gives it its compactness and hardness. It is valued above all for kitchen worktops and prestige cladding. Look and veining

The background is light grey with pearly highlights, crossed by white and dark grey veins with a flowing movement. The intensity of the grey and the density of the veining change from one block to another, so it is best to choose the slabs in person or from photos. Polishing enhances depth and highlights, while a brushed or leather finish gives a more textured effect.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for kitchen worktops, islands, bathroom vanity tops, floors and cladding, including in high-traffic areas. It also lends itself to outdoor use with non-slip finishes. Its main limitation is fabrication, which is slower and more expensive than for marble because of its hardness.

Care and maintenance

Water and a neutral detergent are all that is needed for cleaning. A periodic stain-proofing treatment is recommended, because some slabs can absorb oils if left unprotected.
