Mystic White
Guide

Mystic White: the complete guide

Mystic White is a commercial quartzite with a white background and soft grey veining. It is chosen as an alternative to veined white marbles when a surface more resistant to everyday wear is needed.

History and origin

It is an imported material widely available on the international market, popular in recent years for contemporary kitchens and bathrooms. As with several white stones sold as quartzite, its composition may vary from one batch to another. Before buying, it is therefore useful to check how it behaves with a few simple tests. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is milk white, with grey veins that move fluidly, at times resembling clouds or brushstrokes. The density and direction of the veins change between blocks, and the slabs can be bookmatched. Polishing gives a bright, marble-like look, while a satin finish makes the veins more subdued.

FAQ

Is Mystic White marble or quartzite?

It is sold as quartzite, but some batches may have a dolomitic component. A test with a steel blade and a drop of acid on the sample immediately clarifies its behaviour.

Is it an alternative to Calacatta?

It can be for those who want a veined white with greater scratch resistance. The pattern is softer and less contrasting than that of Apuan marbles.

Does it stain easily?

With a good stain-proofing treatment, absorption is limited. Oil and wine should nevertheless be wiped up within a reasonable time.
