Quarried in Brazil, it has become established on the international market as a light veined stone for contemporary kitchens and bathrooms. The name 'quartzite' is widespread in the trade, but analyses and practical tests generally place it among the dolomitic marbles. Look and veining

The background ranges from white to very light grey, with grey veining that is sometimes soft and sometimes bolder. Variability between slabs is considerable, with whiter areas and others more heavily patterned. Polished, it looks bright and deep, while with a satin or leather finish it takes on a softer appearance.

Suitable for bathroom vanity tops, cladding, floors and even kitchen worktops, provided you accept that small signs of wear may appear over time. For heavily used kitchens a leather or satin finish is advisable, as it makes any dull patches less visible.

Clean with neutral detergents and wipe up citrus, wine and vinegar promptly. A water- and oil-repellent treatment limits staining, while anti-limescale and acidic products should be avoided.
