Porkkala Granite: complete guide
Porkkala is a medium-grained red Finnish granite, compact and with a regular pattern. It is chosen for works that require durability, frost resistance and a warm, consistent colour.
History and origin
The name recalls the Porkkala area in southern Finland. Like other Finnish granites it has long been used in construction, paving and funerary art, including outside the Nordic countries. Look and veining
The background is red with medium-sized grey and black crystals, evenly distributed. Variations between slabs are limited. Polished, it takes on a full, glossy red, while flamed and bush-hammered finishes make it lighter and matt.

It requires minimal maintenance: water and a neutral detergent. On polished exterior surfaces avoid aggressive acidic building cleaners, which can attack grout and sealants.

Is Porkkala similar to Carmen Red?
Both are Finnish reds; Porkkala usually has a more regular, medium grain, Carmen Red larger crystals. It is advisable to compare samples.
