Shiva Kashi Granite: complete guide

Shiva Kashi is an Indian commercial granite in ivory and pinkish tones, with wavy veins and dark specks. It is chosen for bright, warm surfaces with a flowing pattern.

History and origin

It comes from southern India and belongs to the family of light gneisses sold as granite. The name recalls a town in Tamil Nadu and is also spelt Sivakasi. It has long been used on the international market for kitchen worktops, bathrooms and floors. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The ivory background tends towards pink or peach, with wavy grey, beige and sometimes burgundy bands, as well as small garnets. Each slab has its own movement and the overall tone can be pinker or lighter. Polished, it looks warm and glossy; honed, it takes on a softer, more natural appearance.

FAQ

Are Shiva Kashi and Sivakasi the same material?

Yes, they are two spellings of the same trade name; variants such as a lighter or pinker version are also found on the market.

Is it suitable for a heavily used kitchen?

Yes, thanks to its hardness and heat resistance; it just needs sealing to limit grease absorption on the light tones.

Can it be used for a continuous floor?

Yes, indoors it gives a warm, bright effect; for a consistent result it is advisable to use slabs or tiles from the same batch.
