Soglio Gneiss: complete guide

Soglio Gneiss is a Swiss Alpine stone in grey-green tones, hard and hard-wearing. It is chosen for its natural, discreet colour, ideal for floors, stairs and cladding in modern or mountain settings.

History and origin

It takes its name from the village of Soglio, in Val Bregaglia, in the canton of Graubünden, an area where the local stone is an integral part of traditional architecture. The gneisses of these valleys have been used for walls, roofs, floors and rural buildings. Today they are also used in contemporary construction and interior design. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is grey with green nuances, with a fine grain and micas that give silvery glints. The schistosity bands are thin and regular; the green tone may be more or less evident from one slab to another. Honed, it has a calm, velvety look; flamed or brushed, it becomes lighter and non-slip.
