Vilhonneur Stone: complete guide
Vilhonneur Stone is a light limestone from the Charente, with a creamy white background and a fine grain. It is chosen for its brightness and clean appearance, suitable for classic and contemporary interiors.
History and origin
The Charente, in south-western France, is a region with a long tradition of quarrying light limestones, used in local historic buildings. Vilhonneur Stone belongs to this family of materials, used for floors, cladding and dressed stonework. Its neutral tone makes it easy to fit into renovation projects and new buildings. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is a homogeneous creamy white, with a fine grain and sometimes small fossil inclusions or darker specks. Slight differences in tone, from warm white to cream, may appear from one slab to another. A honed finish gives a silky effect, while brushed or antiqued it is more rustic and less prone to showing signs of wear.

FAQ
Does Vilhonneur Stone stain easily?
Like many light limestones it has medium porosity: with a good impregnator and prompt cleaning, stains can be effectively prevented.
Can it be used for a fireplace?
Yes, it is a classic choice for fireplace surrounds and cladding; bespoke fabrication allows profiles and mouldings.
Which finish do you recommend for a floor?
For a residential floor, matt honed or brushed finishes are practical, as they hide scratches and wear better than very smooth surfaces.
