Amethyst: the complete guide
Amethyst slabs are made of fragments of this purple variety of quartz, bonded with resin and polished. The result is a precious surface that, when backlit, becomes a true element of light.
History and origin
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, long known in jewellery. In slabs for interiors, geode sections and crystalline fragments are used, arranged by hand and consolidated with resin. It is a niche material, intended for exclusive projects. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The fragments show every shade of purple, from lilac to deep violet, with white and transparent quartz areas. The composition varies in each slab in the size and distribution of the crystals. Polished and backlit, it reveals its crystalline structure and its most intense reflections.

FAQ
Does the purple colour fade?
Amethyst can lighten if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, and the resin can also deteriorate with UV rays. It is therefore ideal for interiors without direct sunlight.
What effect does backlighting have?
The crystals transmit light irregularly, creating a gem effect with intense purple areas and almost transparent spots. It is the application that best showcases this material.
How durable is it?
Quartz is very hard, about 7 Mohs, and resists scratches and acids, but the resin between the fragments is softer. For this reason decorative rather than functional use is recommended.
How do I order it?
