Purple Agate: the complete guide
Purple Agate is made of agate slices in purple and lilac tones, bonded with resin into decorative slabs. It is chosen to create striking luminous surfaces in luxury settings and design venues.
History and origin
Agate is microcrystalline quartz deposited in layers in rock cavities, forming concentric rings. Intense purple shades are generally obtained by dyeing, a widespread practice in agate processing. The slices are arranged by hand, consolidated with resin and polished. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
Purple, lilac and white rings form rounded sections of various sizes, often with crystalline centres. Every slab is a unique composition. Polished, it has a glassy look, and against the light the purple becomes luminous and deep.

FAQ
What is the difference between Purple Agate and Amethyst?
Amethyst is purple crystalline quartz, with visible crystals and an irregular pattern; purple agate instead shows regular concentric rings. Both can be backlit, with different effects.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes, for tops, walls or fronts, with gentle cleaning and good ventilation. It is less suitable inside the shower, where aggressive products could damage the resin.
Does sunlight damage it?
Prolonged exposure to UV rays can fade the treated colours and yellow the resin. It is therefore a material for interiors, away from very sunny windows.
How do I order it?
On request, with a quote and photos of the available slabs. State the dimensions and whether backlighting is planned, so we can advise you on the technical solution.
