Breccia Paradiso: the complete guide
Breccia Paradiso is a brecciated marble in brown and beige tones, made up of irregular fragments cemented together. It is chosen for its warm, textured effect, suited to interiors with character.
History and origin
Breccias are rocks formed from angular stone fragments naturally re-cemented, and their decorative use has a long tradition in Italian and European architecture. Breccia Paradiso belongs to this family of polychrome marbles and is less common than the great commercial classics. Availability may vary over time and must be checked each time. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The pattern is formed by clasts of various sizes in beige, hazel and brown tones, set in a darker or lighter matrix depending on the area. Every slab is different: the size and density of the fragments can change greatly even within the same block. Polishing intensifies the colours and the contrast between the clasts, while honing gives a softer, more natural look.
Technical properties (indicative)
| Classification | brecciated marble (calcareous) |
|---|---|
| Bulk density | approx. 2,700 kg/m³ (indicative) |
| Mohs hardness | approx. 3 |
| Water absorption | low |
| Main use | interiors |
| Acid resistance | low: sensitive to lemon, vinegar and limescale removers |
Recommended uses
It is ideal for wall cladding, indoor floors, bathroom vanity tops, fireplaces and small furnishings. In the kitchen it is not recommended as a worktop because of its sensitivity to acids. Outdoor use must be assessed case by case, because breccias may have areas of matrix more vulnerable to weathering.
Care and maintenance
Clean with neutral detergents specific to marble, avoiding limescale removers and acidic products. A stain-proofing treatment reduces absorption but does not protect against chemical attack by acids. Quickly wipe up any spills of wine, coffee or juice.
Pairings
- walnut or smoked oak
- satin brass or bronze
- sand-coloured plaster and terracotta velvet fabrics
FAQ
Why are Breccia Paradiso slabs so different from one another?
It is a breccia: the fragments it is made of vary in size and colour. For large surfaces it is advisable to choose the slabs in person or from photos, and to consider bookmatched installation.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
Yes, for cladding, vanity tops and washbasins, provided neutral detergents are used rather than acidic limescale removers, which dull the surface.
Polished or honed?
Polished enhances the colours and is easier to clean; honed is more discreet and makes small signs of wear on floors less noticeable.
