Guide

Calacatta Vagli marble: the complete guide

Calacatta Vagli is an Apuan Calacatta with a warm white background and grey and golden veins. It has the appeal of the best-known Calacattas with a character all its own.

History and origin

It is named after Vagli, in Garfagnana, on the Lucca side of the Apuan Alps, an area with a long quarrying tradition. Calacattas are among the most sought-after marbles in the world for their light background and wide veins; the Vagli variety is appreciated for its warm tones. It is one of the exclusive materials selected by Marmi di Carrara.

Look and veining

An ivory-toned white background with grey veins and golden shades that cross the slab softly. The pattern varies greatly from block to block, from fine veins to larger patches: every supply should be chosen slab by slab.

Recommended uses

Excellent for luxury bathrooms, book-matched walls, floors in entrances and living areas, kitchen tops and splashbacks, tables and fireplaces. Its warm tones also make it suitable for classic and refined rustic interiors, where a cold white would be out of place.

Care and maintenance

Clean with water and neutral detergents and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid acids (lemon, vinegar, descalers) and abrasive products. A water- and oil-repellent treatment after installation protects against stains; in kitchens renew it regularly.

Pairings

  • With brass, bronze and warm woods.
  • With sage green or terracotta for Mediterranean interiors.
  • With Emperador or Daino Reale in floors and frames.

FAQ

Are Calacatta Vagli and Calacatta Gold the same?

No: they are different Calacattas by quarry and pattern. Vagli has a warmer background and grey-golden veins; it is worth comparing the available slabs.

Is it suitable for kitchen worktops?

Yes, with a honed finish and a sealer: like every calcitic marble it is sensitive to acids, which dull the surface.
