Château-Landon Stone: complete guide
Château-Landon Stone is a very hard limestone from the Île-de-France, in light beige tones. It is chosen for its remarkable strength and its history in French architecture.
History and origin
It is quarried at Château-Landon, south of Paris, and for centuries has been one of the best-known hard stones of the Paris Basin. It has been used in numerous buildings and public works, especially for plinths, stairs and parts exposed to wear. Its compactness has made it a benchmark for the most demanding uses. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is light beige or ivory, with small cavities and thin veins. The appearance is fairly uniform, with slight variations in tone. Polished, it comes close to the look of a marble, while honed or bush-hammered it appears more matt and lighter.
