Danby Montclair: complete guide

Danby Montclair is a white marble from Vermont with grey-green veins. It appeals to those who want a bright white but with a delicate pattern, less contrasting than the classic veined marbles.

History and origin

It belongs to the family of Danby marbles, quarried in Vermont and long used in residential and commercial construction in the United States. Montclair is the name of a selection with soft veining and slightly greenish colouring. On the European market it is a niche material, suited to projects seeking an unusual white. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The white background is traced with fine, soft veins shading from grey to sage green. The amount of veining varies between slabs: some are almost clean, others livelier. With a matt honed finish the green tones look warmer and more natural; with a polished one, sharper.

Recommended uses

Suitable for home floors, bathroom cladding, vanity tops, fireplaces and interior stairs. It can go in the kitchen only if you accept the natural ageing of the surface. For exteriors with freeze-thaw cycles a granite or purpose-suited stone is preferable.

Care and maintenance

A soft cloth and a neutral marble-specific detergent are all that is needed for cleaning. Avoid limescale removers, concentrated bleach and abrasive sponges. The stain-repellent protector should be renewed according to use, usually every one or two years.

Pairings

  • natural walnut
  • sage green ceramics and walls
  • satin brass

FAQ

Are the veins really green?

They are more grey-green and soft: across a whole wall they give a fresh tint, not a true green marble.

Is it suitable for the bathroom?

Yes, it is one of its best uses: cladding, tops and floors, with a protector and neutral detergents.

Can I have book-matched slabs?

It depends on the availability of consecutive slabs from the same block: we check this case by case.

How do I request a quote?

Send us a drawing or approximate dimensions: we will propose the material available on request, with photos of the slabs and a quotation for processing and shipping.
