Rosso Eretria: complete guide

Rosso Eretria is a brecciated marble from the island of Euboea, with light clasts set in a red and violet matrix. It is chosen for high-impact decorative work with a classical flavour.

History and origin

It comes from the Eretria area on the Greek island of Euboea, known since antiquity for its coloured breccias. Materials of this kind have historically been used for columns, inlays and prestigious cladding. Today it is a niche material, available in limited quantities. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The matrix ranges from wine red to violet, with fragments of various sizes in pink, white and grey tones. Each slab has a unique pattern and variability is high, so visual selection of the slabs is essential. Polishing intensifies the colours and makes the brecciation very evident.

FAQ

Is Rosso Eretria suitable for an entire floor?

It can be used, but because of its very bold character and limited availability it is more often used in inserts, bands and decorations combined with more neutral marbles.

Why do some slabs have resin?

Breccias have natural fissures between the fragments: filling them with resin consolidates the slab and improves its workability.

Can I use it in the bathroom?

Yes, for cladding, tops and washbasins, with neutral detergents and a protective treatment.
