Emerald Fluorite: the complete guide
Emerald Fluorite is a decorative slab made of fragments of green fluorite, translucent and luminous. It is chosen for its rare colour and its spectacular effect when backlit, accepting the delicacy of the material.
History and origin
Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral, known for its wide range of colours and for fluorescence, which is actually named after it. It is softer than other semi-precious stones and has cleavage planes that make it fragile. For this reason, in slab form it is always consolidated with resin and used for decorative applications. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request, with photos of the available batches.
Look and veining
The background is a mosaic of deep green fragments, alternating with lighter aquamarine and sometimes purplish tones. The shades change considerably from one slab to another, so it is useful to choose from photos or a sample. Polished, it looks vitreous; against the light the green becomes brilliant and highlights the internal fractures of the crystals.

FAQ
Is Emerald Fluorite delicate?
Yes, it is the softest of the commonly used semi-precious stones, with a hardness of around 4, and scratches more easily than quartz. It should be used on vertical or little-used surfaces.
How does it look when backlit?
It is one of the most dramatic materials: the green lights up evenly. Neutral-light LEDs are advisable so as not to alter the colour.
Can I use it for a bathroom top?
It is possible in a little-used guest bathroom, but for an everyday bathroom agate or quartz, which are more scratch-resistant, are more suitable.
How is it ordered?
On request: we send a quote and photographs of the slabs, also against the light, so you can choose the shade of green.
