Green Slate: complete guide

Green Slate is a Brazilian slate with a green colour and a fine, regular surface. It is chosen for floors and cladding with a natural tone, offering good value for money.

History and origin

It comes from Brazil, one of the world's leading slate producers, exported in large quantities for floors, cladding and roofing. The green variety is less common than the grey and black ones and is chosen to add a touch of natural colour. It is readily available as tiles and standard-format slabs. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is green, from sage to olive green, with a very fine grain and a fairly uniform appearance. Slight variations in tone and some lighter or oxidised nuances may be present. Natural riven gives a slightly irregular surface, while a honed finish is smooth and matt.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for interior floors, wall cladding, bathrooms, terraces and outdoor walkways. For kitchen worktops it can be used with a stain-proofing treatment, bearing in mind that the surface scratches more than a granite.

Care and maintenance

Wash with water and neutral detergents and treat with a slate impregnator, which protects and intensifies the green. Avoid acidic and abrasive products.
