Jura Beige (Juramarmor): complete guide

Jura Beige is a Jurassic limestone from Bavaria, also known commercially as Juramarmor, with a beige background and clearly visible fossils. It is chosen for elegant, hard-wearing floors and cladding with a discreet natural character.

History and origin

It comes from Bavaria, in southern Germany, where Jurassic limestones have been quarried and worked for a long time. It is very widespread in German and European construction for floors, stairs, façades and tops. It also exists in a blue-grey variety, obtained from different beds of the same deposit. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is a uniform beige-cream, dotted with fossils such as fragments of ammonites, belemnites and sponges, which are its distinctive feature. The quantity of fossils and the shade vary from slab to slab and between different cuts. Honed or polished, it shows the fossils well; brushed or sandblasted, it has a more rustic look.

Recommended uses

It is widely used for interior floors, stairs, window sills, bathrooms and façade cladding. Outdoors, the right selection and a non-polished finish must be chosen. As a kitchen worktop it is possible only if its sensitivity to acids is accepted.

Care and maintenance

Apply a stain-proofing protector and renew it over time. Clean with neutral detergents or soaps made for stone. Avoid acids and limescale removers, which dull the surface.

FAQ

What is the difference between Jura Beige and Jura Grey?

They come from the same type of deposit: the blue-grey variety has a cooler tone and generally less contrast with the fossils.

Is it a marble or a limestone?

It is a compact limestone that takes a polish well, which is why it is often called Juramarmor in the trade.

Is it suitable for busy floors?

Yes, it is valued precisely for floors and stairs; over time polished surfaces tend to become satin in the areas of heaviest traffic.
