Demirci Onyx: complete guide
Demirci Onyx is a Turkish onyx with a light, translucent background patterned with thin bands. It is chosen for decorative surfaces that come to life with light, including backlit ones.
History and origin
It comes from Turkey, one of the countries with a long tradition of quarrying onyx and travertine. Like other onyxes, it is formed by the slow deposition of calcium carbonate from mineral-rich waters, which creates the typical banded structure. It is a material intended above all for furnishings and prestige interior design. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is light, with parallel or wavy bands in cream, honey and white tones. Translucency varies with thickness and band density, and the pattern also changes considerably from one slab to another. Polishing enhances its depth; when backlit, the bands light up with warm effects.

Recommended uses
Ideal for backlit walls, washbasins, bar tops, reception counters and furnishings. Not recommended for high-traffic floors or heavily used kitchens, where it scratches and stains easily.

FAQ
Can it be backlit?
Yes, it is one of its most successful uses: with evenly distributed LEDs the light bands become luminous. We recommend testing a sample with the intended lighting.
Why do the slabs have a mesh on the back?
Onyx is fragile and is often reinforced with mesh or resin on the back; for backlighting, transparent backings are used.
Can I use it in the bathroom?
Yes, for washbasins, vanity tops and cladding, taking care not to use acidic anti-limescale products. In showers and on floors it is best avoided.
How do I order it?
On request: send us the dimensions and we will offer you a quotation and photos of the available slabs, which are also useful for assessing translucency.
