Kilimanjaro Onyx: the complete guide

Kilimanjaro Onyx is a banded onyx in light, warm tones, with shades ranging from beige to honey and grey. It is chosen for elegant decorative surfaces, with a lively but not excessive pattern.

Suitable for: BathroomWall cladding

History and origin

The name is an evocative trade name and does not necessarily indicate its origin. Like other calcareous onyxes, it formed through the slow layering of calcite, which gave rise to the bands. It is offered on the international market for high-end interiors. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

Thin, wavy bands run across a light background, alternating beige, honey and grey tones. Variations between batches can be significant, so it is advisable to assess the slabs actually available. Polished, it is brilliant and deep; honed, it takes on a more natural look.

FAQ

Does the name mean it comes from Africa?

Not necessarily: many stone names are commercial and chosen to evoke an image. If the origin matters for the project, we check it batch by batch.

How does it behave against the light?

The light bands become luminous and the darker ones trace soft lines, with a warm, elegant effect. The result varies according to thickness and batch.

Is a reinforcing mesh needed?

In most cases yes, as with other onyxes: the mesh on the back increases safety during fabrication and installation. For backlighting, clear resins are used.
