Oriental Red Onyx: the complete guide
Oriental Red Onyx is an onyx in red and orange tones, with lighter amber and cream bands. It is chosen to bring warmth and intensity to prestigious spaces and intimate rooms.
History and origin
The trade name recalls the Eastern origins traditionally associated with coloured onyxes, but the available batches may come from different places. Red onyxes are less common than light ones and are often reserved for limited surfaces or furniture pieces. The colour depends on the presence of iron oxides in the various layers. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The background is deep red, with concentric or parallel bands that lighten towards orange, amber and cream. Both the shade and the density of the bands vary between slabs and batches. A polished finish enhances the red and the transparency; a honed one gives a warmer, antique look.

FAQ
Is Oriental Red Onyx suitable for a bathroom?
Yes, for vanity tops, washbasins and cladding, with good protection and neutral cleaning products. It is best avoided for shower trays and areas that are constantly wet with very hard water.
How does it change with backlighting?
The light areas become amber and luminous, while the red warms up until it recalls fire. The effect is more intense and less uniform than with white onyxes.
Does it go well with modern furnishings?
Yes, if used sparingly: on a table or a single wall, surrounded by neutral surfaces and dark metals, it adds warmth without weighing the space down.
