History and origin

It is a manganese silicate found in several deposits around the world, including historic sites in the Russian Urals. It has long been used for ornamental objects, small sculptures and inlays. In interior design it appears mainly in composite slabs and small formats, given its value. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is bright pink or pinkish red, with black networks and patches caused by manganese oxides. The ratio of pink to black varies greatly between pieces, from almost uniform areas to densely veined ones. Polishing intensifies the pink and gives depth to the contrast with the black.

Recommended uses

It is used in composite slabs of fragments bonded with resin or in small formats for decorative walls, bathroom vanity tops, tables, inlays and accessories. It is a luxury material with high prices. It is not recommended for floors, kitchens or exteriors.

Care and maintenance

Clean with a neutral detergent and a soft cloth. Avoid solvents, direct heat and abrasives. A specific wax or protector may be recommended by the supplier of the composite.
