Red Agate: the complete guide
Red Agate is a slab made of agate sections in red, orange and amber tones, consolidated with resin. Against the light it takes on a warm, precious effect, similar to stained glass.
History and origin
Agates are chalcedonies formed in layers inside rock cavities; red shades are linked to iron oxides and sometimes intensified by treatments. To create the slabs, the slices are selected by colour and arranged by hand. It is a material intended for exclusive interiors and bespoke projects. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.
Look and veining
The sections show concentric rings from dark red to orange and honey, with crystalline centres. The mosaic changes from slab to slab in the size and colour of the slices. Polished, it is brilliant; backlit, it reveals warm, deep transparency.

FAQ
How does it differ from carnelian?
Carnelian is a red-orange chalcedony without marked rings, whereas red agate shows the typical concentric banded structure. In slab form, agate has a more graphic effect.
Does it suit a classic interior?
Yes, its warm tones work well with dark woods, brass and heavy fabrics. In a modern interior, on the other hand, it is best isolated on one surface surrounded by neutral materials.
How thick are the slabs?
Slabs are usually about 2 cm thick, often bonded to a backing for greater stability. The exact thickness depends on the available slab and the project.
How do I order it?
