Udelfangen Sandstone: complete guide
Udelfangen Sandstone is a fine-grained German sandstone in yellow-grey tones. It is valued for its homogeneity and workability, which make it suitable for architectural elements and sculpture.
History and origin
It is quarried near Udelfangen, in the Trier area, in Rhineland-Palatinate, not far from the border with Luxembourg. Sandstones from this area have long been used for historic buildings, decoration and restoration in the region. Today it is offered for façades, dressed stone and cladding. Look and veining
The background is light yellow-grey, with a fine, homogeneous grain and slightly warmer or cooler nuances. Thin veins or oxide spots may appear. Chiselled, matt honed or sandblasted finishes give an understated, elegant look.

It is used for façades, cornices, window sills, portals, sculptures and interior cladding, as well as stairs and pedestrian paving. It is not suitable for kitchen worktops or surfaces prone to staining.
Care and maintenance
Clean with water and neutral detergents, avoiding acids and high-pressure jets. For façades, a breathable water repellent, chosen with a specialist, protects against driving rain.
