History and origin

Grey limestones are among the oldest and most widespread building materials, appreciated for their ease of working. Amelas Stone is an imported material whose characteristics and available batch should be assessed before designing. As with all limestones, compactness and porosity can vary. Look and veining

The background is grey, with possible small inclusions, spots or lighter and darker traces typical of sedimentary stones. Differences in tone and pattern can be seen from one slab to another. Honing gives a matt, soft appearance, while brushing accentuates its texture.

Recommended uses

It is suitable for indoor floors and cladding, thresholds, windowsills and bathrooms with matt finishes. Outdoor use should be assessed on the basis of the batch's frost resistance. Not recommended for kitchen worktops, where food acids would leave marks.

Care and maintenance

It should be protected with a water- and oil-repellent treatment and cleaned with neutral detergents. Avoid limescale removers and acidic products, which corrode the surface. Spills should be wiped up immediately to prevent absorption.
