Aragonite Bianca
Guide

White Aragonite: the complete guide

White Aragonite is a translucent stone formed of aragonite, a calcium carbonate with crystals different from those of calcite, in white and cream tones. It is chosen for its luminosity and for its fine, almost fibrous banded pattern.

Suitable for: BathroomWall cladding

History and origin

Aragonite has the same chemical composition as calcite but a different crystal structure, which often gives it a fibrous, silky appearance. In the stone trade it is grouped with onyxes because of its transparency and uses. Aragonite slabs are offered on the international market for high-end interiors. Marmi di Carrara supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The white background features thin bands and areas of elongated cream-toned crystals that create silky reflections. Band density and transparency vary between slabs. Polished, it looks brilliant and iridescent; honed, it takes on a softer, pearly look.

FAQ

Are aragonite and onyx different?

Chemically both are calcium carbonate, but crystallised in different forms. In practice they have similar uses and care; aragonite is slightly harder and often has a more fibrous appearance.

Can it be backlit?

Yes, its translucency makes it suitable for luminous walls and counters. Light highlights the bands and the silky effect of the crystals.

Is it suitable for a washbasin top?

Yes, with protection and neutral cleaning. Avoid leaving soaps or aggressive cosmetics in prolonged contact with the stone.
