History and origin

White onyxes form through the deposition of calcium carbonate in regular layers, which accounts for their transparency and thin bands. They are imported materials widespread in the luxury market; the origin varies depending on the batch. Marmi di Carrara has handled it in blocks and slabs and supplies it on request.

Look and veining

The background is brilliant white with thin ivory or light grey bands. The slabs show slight variations in transparency and pattern, which bookmatching brings out. Polished, it is almost glassy, and when backlit it becomes an evenly luminous surface.

Recommended uses

Suitable for backlit walls, reception desks, counters, washbasins and furnishings. Not suitable for traffic floors, kitchen worktops or exteriors; it is usually reinforced with a mesh on the back.

Care and maintenance

Protect with a stain-proofing product and clean with neutral detergents. Avoid aggressive cosmetics and limescale removers, especially on bathroom vanity tops.
